In recent years, we have seen a large increase in the number of refugees and migrants taking to small boats. They do this as a means of escaping to what they see as a better life for themselves and their families or as a result of persecution in their home country.
This has been particularly true in the Mediterranean and Andaman Seas where thousands of refugees and migrants have had to be rescued. Unfortunately, thousands have also died.
Merchant ships which have been involved in rescue operations have reported not being able to cope with the reality of mass rescue situations.
This course has been developed to help you understand the demands that will be placed on you and your crew members if you are ever called on to assist in a mass rescue operation.
Whilst you may never be fully prepared to meet the challenges presented by such a situation, this course will help you to develop plans and procedures to which will enable you and your crew to safely deal with the situation.
